PhotoFusion® was created by ZEISS experts to meet consumers’ expectation of self-tinting lenses that darken and turn clear faster*. The introduction of PhotoFusion® in 2011 has revolutionized the market for these kinds of lenses.
PhotoFusion® lenses adapt quickly to changing light conditions. The high- and mid-index lenses react up to 2 times faster* from dark to clear and up to 20% faster* from clear to dark than previous photochromic lenses by ZEISS.
Indoors the PhotoFusion® lenses are very clear whereas outside they turn very dark in the sunlight.

The secret behind PhotoFusion® technology is patented photo-active molecules that respond more efficiently to light energy, darkening up to 20% faster* than existing photochromic lenses by ZEISS and fading up to 2x faster*. By combining these molecules with lenses by ZEISS, it has been possible to design a new generation of powerful self-tinting lenses: PhotoFusion® by ZEISS.
A new level in wearing comfort
PhotoFusion® lenses by ZEISS incorporate the most important features customers would expect from self-tinting lenses. They represent another step forward in wearing convenience and comfort in a high-quality ZEISS product wearers can trust.
UV radiation & molecules
Self-tinting lenses contain molecules that react to UV rays. When hit by UV rays, these molecules are unleashed, thus darkening the lens – the more intensive the UV rays, the darker the lenses. Self-tinting lenses therefore adjust automatically to changing light conditions. And of course, whether the lenses are clear or dark, PhotoFusion® always provides 100 % solar UV protection.
