New To Toric IOLs? ZEISS Sets You Up For Success

Astigmatism treatment via toric IOLs is becoming more common and mainstream. Even so, incorporating toric IOLs into your repertoire as a resident or new surgeon can be daunting. When implanting toric IOLs, precision makes all the difference. Awareness, planning and utilization of technology and available services can help to prevent potential errors and increase comfort during your first few surgeries with toric lenses.

Astigmatism management from ZEISS can support you with:

• Accurate measurements
• Advanced IOL calculation tools
• Timesaving, markerless alignment
• The widest range of toric models available

Patient selection

For a patient to fully comprehend the impact of selecting a toric IOL, they need to understand the risks and benefits completely.

ZEISS’ Vision Simulation Tool allows you to educate and educate the patient about toric IOLs by demonstrating their future vision with toric and non-toric options.

ZEISS toric IOL portfolio

ZEISS offers the broadest range of toric IOLs to better meet your patients‘ individual needs. Monofocal and multifocal toric lenses are available in Canada: explore our portfolio. Precise IOL selection out of ~2000 options: smaller 0.5D cyl steps, up to 12D in cyl.

Proven1 rotational stability thanks to 4-haptic fixation of ZEISS toric IOLs allows for bidirectional rotation during implantation and long-term stability resulting in long-lasting astigmatism correction.

IOL Calculation - Biometry and Keratometry Considerations

Total keratometric power and total corneal astigmatism, incorporating information about the back surfaces of the cornea, can now be measured using the TK license from IOLMaster 700. Historically the anterior corneal surface was measured, and it was assumed that the back surface was consistent with this. Research has now shown that it is more precise to include some type of adjustment for posterior corneal astigmatism in your toric lens calculations.2

Obtain more precise toric lens calculations using the TK license on the IOLMaster 700. TK from ZEISS incorporates information about the front and back surfaces of the cornea into your toric lens calculations.

Including a personalized SIA and incision location to calculate IOL power

One of the causes of unpredictable post-operative outcomes is Surgically induced Astigmatism (SIA). Curvature changes during the surgery can result in alterations to the magnitude and orientation of the principal meridians post-surgically.

As surgeons aim to correct ever-lower levels of astigmatism the influence of SIA is becoming more significant. To achieve more accurate refractive outcomes in toric intraocular lenses, new toric surgeons should calculate and use their personal SIA and incision orientation for toric lens calculations.

ZEISS IOL Power Calculation Service

Assistance with IOL Calculations & Selection

This personal service supports you in calculating and selecting all monofocal, toric, and multifocal ZEISS IOLs based on biometric data obtained from the ZEISS IOLMaster and/or other diagnostic devices and helps you to identify possible adjustments to your calculation routines in the unlikely event of an unexpected refractive outcome.

You can receive calculations and guidance for challenging cases such as post-LVC and irregular astigmatism within 1-2 business days by filling out the form below and emailing it with the biometry report and diagnostic information to iolcalculations .meditec @zeiss .com.

Free Online Calculator for ZEISS IOLs - Z CALC

Z CALC is a proprietary algorithm specifically designed for ZEISS IOLs. Offering fast and reliable online calculations for ZEISS toric and non-toric IOLs. It predicts immediate post-operative refraction data for excellent outcomes and satisfied patients. Z CALC takes posterior corneal astigmatism into account – either by using IOLMaster TK value readings or with the nomogram. Use Z CALC and receive precise calculations to choose the most suitable toric or non-toric IOL for your patient

Injector training

Our Sales Team can support you with one-on-one injector training and have the tools to help remotely or in person. Our injector handling and preparation videos are also available on various online platforms including Youtube.

Markerless Surgery with ZEISS CALLISTO eye

Toric IOL alignment on the axis is an important part of Toric Cataract surgery.

Access to a ZEISS Ophthalmology microscope with CALLISTO eye and option reference image software (available with IOLMaster 500 or 700) can remove the necessity for manual marking for toric IOLs and provides an image guided system. This technology saves 6 minutes on average during the surgery and improves alignment precision by 40% compared to manual marking.3

As each degree of misalignment causes about 3 percent of astigmatism to remain, ZEISS CALLISTO eye is a great tool to enhance the astigmatism workflow.
